3 Timeless 1970s Classics I'll Listen to Forever: David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac & Minnie Riperton (2025)

Prepare to embark on a musical journey through the golden era of the 1970s, an era that birthed an array of timeless tunes. While some of these musical gems have faded into obscurity, others continue to resonate with audiences across generations. Today, we delve into three such classics that have secured a permanent spot in my musical repertoire, even as I approach the twilight of my years.

David Bowie's 'Life On Mars?'

The 1970s witnessed an explosion of hits from the legendary David Bowie, and his song 'Life On Mars?' from the album 'Hunky Dory' (1971) holds a special place in my heart. It was the very first Bowie song I listened to after his untimely passing in 2016, and it encapsulates the essence of his unique brand of glam rock. This ethereal, hopeful, yet existential masterpiece showcases Bowie's unparalleled talent, leaving an indelible mark on the music industry.

Fleetwood Mac's 'Silver Springs'

'Silver Springs' is a testament to Stevie Nicks' songwriting prowess and one of the finest gems in her repertoire. It's hard to comprehend why this masterpiece didn't make the cut for the iconic album 'Rumours' (1977). In my opinion, 'Silver Springs' deserves a place not only on the album but as a single as well. The live version of the song is an absolute masterpiece, giving me goosebumps every time I listen to it.

Minnie Riperton's 'Les Fleurs'

Minnie Riperton, the soul crooner, has a special place in my musical affections, and 'Les Fleurs' is my ultimate favorite from her repertoire. While 'Lovin' You' is an incredible tune, 'Les Fleurs' holds a special place in my heart. It's a wonder how this track, with its almost operatic elements, didn't chart. If you haven't experienced this 1970 masterpiece from 'Come To My Garden', put on your headphones and prepare to be enchanted. I'm a little envious that you get to discover it for the first time!

These three timeless classics from the 1970s will forever be a part of my musical journey, and I invite you to join me in celebrating these musical legends.

What are your thoughts on these songs? Do you have any other 1970s classics that you think deserve a mention? Feel free to share your thoughts and let's spark a musical conversation!
